Fears have been raised over electric car safety after 5 fire engines and 35 firefighters struggled for 2 hours to control the blaze from a Telsa Model S which had crashed. Telsa acknowledges that [lithium ion] battery fires can take 24 hours to fully extinguish and can easily re-ignite. The company publishes “emergency response guides” to help firefighters who are advised to wear respiratory equipment due to the toxic fumes emitted.
