FIRE INVESTIGATOR (Dublin)
Background

A forensic investigation includes establishing the root cause of an event and determining the likelihood of a recovery from a third party or the repudiation of a claim on an insurance policy because the policyholder has failed to fulfil obligations under the contract of insurance.
 

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fire Investigator to join our highly qualified team, based in our Dublin office.

This role will involve:

• Attending incident scenes, documenting and collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses

• Acting as lead investigator in the investigation of the origin, cause and development of less complex cases

• Liaising with experts representing other interested parties

• Collating documentary and witness evidence for compilation in technical reports

• Providing expert witness evidence, where required

• Utilising IFIC’s case management system to record all case-related activity, in line with SLA requirements

• Maintaining technical knowledge and skills through continuous professional development, by attending training courses, undertaking research and reference to scientific papers and

developments in the field of fire and explosion investigation

• Attending marketing events, as required

 

Requirements

Candidates will have relevant experience and/or qualifications in the field of fire investigation, fire engineering, forensic science or other relevant discipline. Membership to a professional body would be advantageous but is not essential. This may suit a Masters-level graduate with prior practical experience or a serving fire officer with a specialism in fire investigation. Regardless of academic/professional background, practical experience is essential.

The role requires strong analytical skills and the ability to apply scientific and systematic approaches to the forensic examination of incident scenes.

Strong communication skills are essential, along with the ability to present accurate information in a clear and unambiguous manner, both verbally and in writing. Attention to detail, a flexible approach and an ability to form effective working relationships with colleagues and clients are key qualities for this position.

This role requires frequent, often short notice, travel to scenes across Ireland and the UK. Some overseas travel may also be required. You must hold a current driving licence and, ideally, be a car owner.

FAILURE ENGINEER/INVESTIGATOR (Dublin)

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Failure Engineer/Investigator to join our highly qualified team, based in our Dublin office.

In the context of forensic investigation, building services engineers use their knowledge of the design of mechanical and electrical systems, and experience of supervising the installation of such systems, to determine the origin and cause of incidents involving building services. That may be in the context of an equipment failure, system failure, escape of fluid, fire or explosion.

This role will involve:

• Attending incident scenes, documenting and collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses

• Interrogating and downloading information from building management systems, intruder alarm panels, fire alarm panels and other automated control systems

• Gathering evidence of how equipment works

• Examining equipment recovered from scenes

• Undertaking comparative examinations of damaged and undamaged equipment

• Conducting root cause analysis

• Report writing

• Providing expert opinion to causal factors and liability

• Giving expert evidence in court

 

Requirements

Candidates will have relevant experience and/or qualifications in the field of building services, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering. It may also suit an individual with a technical background who has performed in a supervisory capacity within facilities management. Membership to a professional body would be advantageous but is not essential. Practical experience is essential.

You will have extensive knowledge of layouts and requirements for building services for residential or commercial properties, including installation elements, e.g., plumbing or fire protection.

Strong communication skills are essential, along with the ability to present accurate information in a clear and unambiguous manner, both verbally and in writing. Attention to detail, a flexible approach and an ability to form effective working relationships with colleagues and clients are key qualities for this position.

This role requires frequent, often short notice, travel to scenes across Ireland and the UK. Some overseas travel may also be required. You must hold a current driving licence and, ideally, be a car owner. Relevant training in relation to fire investigation will be provided.
