IFIC Forensics & Fire Protection Association Form Strategic Alliance - 20th June 2014
IFIC Forensics and the Fire Protection Association (FPA) announce a strategic alliance set to increase insurer access to skilled fire investigators and provide research and trend data to support assessment and management of fire risk.
The Forensic Regulator is expected to publish Quality Standards for fire investigation which will require investigators to be regulated and firms to demonstrate employee competencies. The Standards will have ramifications in both the criminal and civil justice sectors.
IFIC Forensics and the FPA will provide in-depth specialist fire investigation training at a time when cuts to the UK Fire & Rescue Service are leaving insurers exposed when attempting to determine cause and liability in fire claims. The new alliance has recently won a contract to provide fire investigation training to the Welsh Fire & Rescue Service. Training includes both theoretical and practical elements, utilising market leading training capabilities and expertise, complemented by world-class practical facilities.
The combination of skills, resources, research and trend data available via the partnership will further enhance the insurance industry’s knowledge of fire patterns and losses to help mitigate risk. Clients will also benefit from IFIC Forensics access to the FPA fire testing facilities, to assess evidence and provide expert opinion, especially when acting as an expert witnesses on behalf of insurers.
Prof. Jim Lygate, Chairman & Principal Investigator at IFIC Forensics commented: “We are delighted to have partnered with the FPA, to improve insurer access to qualified fire investigators. At a time where skilled fire investigators are in decline, this new Standard is a game changer for providers and this partnership will allow us to provide market leading training of the highest quality; building the next generation of expert investigators. The partnership will also see us produce forward thinking intelligence and research to support insurers effectively manage and make informed decisions around fire risk and claims.”
Jonathan O’Neill, Managing Director at The Fire Protection Association said: “This alliance supports our shared philosophy of protecting people, property and the environment by advancing fire prevention and protection techniques. We are focussed on reinforcing our mission to reduce insurable risk through research, advice and best practice. IFIC Forensics are a natural fit with our vision to arm the insurance market with intelligence and data they require, whilst combining our leading expertise and facilities to deliver training of the highest calibre. We look forward to a long and successful partnership.”
