Mike Wisekal has worked in the fire industry since February 1997, serving nearly 18 years in the Fire Service.  His Fire Service career included fulfilling various roles from operational firefighter to Incident Commander.  Part of his operational training included structural firefighting, firefighting at sea, road traffic collisions, fire behaviour training, and health & safety training.  He has been deployed to incidents involving a diverse range of operational challenges involving risk to life and property.

 

Mike served in the Unites States military from 1989 - 1996.  He completed a Diploma in Military Policing at the United States Military Police School and an Associates of Art Degree (with Honours) in Criminal Justice Technology.

 

From 2007 to 2014 Mike performed his role as a full-time fire investigation officer in the Fire Service where he gained experience in managing and undertaking complex fire scene investigations involving the loss of life, property and personal injury.  Many of his investigations involved partnership investigations with Procurator Fiscals, Local Authorities, Police, forensic scientists, HSE, private forensic providers and Insurers.

 

In 2013 Mike completed his MSc in Fire Scene Investigation.  He has further obtained his Certified Fire Investigator professional accreditation and Fire Investigation Technician professional designation through the International Association of Arson Investigators.

Mike developed and delivered fire investigation and scene preservation input for first responding officers and firefighters both locally and nationally within Scotland.  He has also developed and delivered presentations on fire investigation to Detective Police Officers at the Scottish Police College.

After leaving public service in 2014 Mike joined IFIC Forensics as a Senior Investigator.  Since becoming part of the IFIC Forensics team, Mike has had the opportunity to expand his expertise, knowledge and experience by working on a variety of marine, industrial, commercial and residential investigations.

Mike has undertaken legal experience training and been successful in achieving an Advanced Professional Award in Expert Witness Evidence (APAEWE).
